Ernest Cunningham is traveling on the opulent Gun train, which traverses the vast Australian desert from Darwin to Adelaide. Following the release of his novel, he receives an invitation to be the guest of honour at a gathering of mystery writers. Accompanied by his girlfriend Juliette, Ernest finds himself amidst the crème de la crème of the literary world. However, the journey takes a dark turn when a murder takes place, turning all passengers into suspects, including Ernest himself. The journey begins with seven writers aboard; by the end, only five will disembark alive, with one of them in handcuffs.
